Breaking point: aftermath of the February Revolution

The Tsar has abdicated, and the Romanov rule is no more! After days of violence and uprisings, Nicholas II has been forced to abdicate, starting a period of political unrest as parties fight to determine the political direction of Russia. The Russian Provisional Government has just been formed, an interim government has been put in place, and already it must mediate between the many voices all clamouring to be heard.

All the while, the Great War rages on, increasingly unpopular amongst the populace. Major defeats and the catastrophic losses in human life have killed morale beyond measure, and supplies are inadequate. Public opinion on sending more soldiers to die is nosediving, made worse by Nicholas II’s terrible military decisions.  Russia must now fight a war on two fronts, navigating both the treacherous domestic climate and the intricacies of war, balancing its resources between internal policies and the military industrial complex, all while placating its uneasy citizens.

Workers are demanding better working conditions, peasants are demanding better treatment by landowners and everyone has their own dissatisfaction with the governance of the country. Furthermore, the Russian economy is faltering, with soaring prices and wages that cannot keep up; paired with a famine, conditions are terrible on the home front.

Stuck between a rock and a hard place, the government must find a way to resolve these problems before the citizenry turns on them next. Delegates must find a middle ground between their differing political views and turn Russia’s weakness into strength during one of its most difficult times, or they may no longer have a Russia to govern. This is the critical make-or-break point that will decide the nation’s strength.

This is your own battlefield. Cry “Havoc!” and let slip the dogs of war; Russia is counting on you to lead it into a brighter future.
